Normal Firebrick is not good insulators. A special insulating Firebrick of highly porous fireclay or kaolin has low conductivity and low heat content but a melting point of only about 1,600°F to 2,800°F (870°C-1,540°C). Density is lower 1.3g/cm3, it is light weight Firebrick or insulating brick. Today, they are widely used in refractory industry.
